Eyemouth Variety ready for Disney classic

February 27, 2012 By evg

Eyemouth Variety Group are looking forward to welcoming you to ‘be their guest’ at their forthcoming production of Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ which will take place in the old Eyemouth High School from Wednesday March 7, to Saturday, March 10.

Rehearsals have been under way since September for the much loved classical tale which tells the tale of a prince (Raymond Williams) turned into a beast because of his unkindness to a beggar woman/witch who also sees his castle staff transformed into everyday household items.

These include Lumiere (candelabra) played by Bob Lockwood, Cogsworth (clock) Craig Rosie, Babette (feather duster) Karen Short and Madame de la Grande Bouche (wardrobe) Maureen Gillie.

Luckily Belle (Lyn Manderson) shows him that beauty is only skin deep when she goes to rescue her father, Maurice (Billy Shardlow) but is she in time to reverse the spell and escape from her would-be-suitor Gaston (Steve Sadler), side kick Le Fou (Mak Wilson) and the sinister M. D’Arque (Jonathon Combe)?

You will also recognise a few more familiar faces from previous Variety Group shows and the award winning Eyemouth & District Community Youth Theatre Group. This family show features replica Disney costumes which have been funded through a grant by Scottish Borders Council, and stunning scenery thanks to a grant from The Co-operative Membership Society.

The musical features many well-known songs from the animated classic such as the much loved title track ‘Be Our Guest’ and ‘Belle’, the haunting ‘If I Can’t Love Her’ and ‘Home’ which were written for the musical adaptation and stay true to the Disney film.

Eyemouth Variety Group are very grateful to Awards for All Scotland for allowing them to purchase their own supplementary stage lighting and Youth Chex who have enabled them to purchase new stage curtains.

Both the lighting and the curtains will be made available to other Eyemouth community groups.

Tickets are now on sale from Occasion, Market Place, Eyemouth, priced at £8 adults and £6.50 for under 16s.

Performances on each night will start at 7.30pm.
